# Getting started

# Getting started

SnapIt uses one login page. After sign-in, where you land depends on whether you are a **tenant user** (customer workspace) or **Root** (platform admin).

| Actor | How you get access | After login |
| - | - | - |
| Tenant owner | **Register** a new account | Email OTP → onboarding → Dashboard |
| Tenant member | Invite link | OTP if needed → Dashboard |
| Tenant user (any non-Root) | **Forgot password** at `/forgot-password` | Email OTP → new password → Sign in |
| Root (SnapIt platform) | Bootstrap admin account | Admin → Tenants (no tenant sidebar; no self-serve password reset) |

## New workspace signup

<Steps>
  <Step title="Register">
    Open **/register**, create an owner account, and SnapIt provisions a workspace with welcome credits and a default API key.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Verify email (OTP)">
    Enter the code at **/verify-otp**. Unverified users cannot call tenant APIs.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Complete onboarding">
    At **/onboarding**, rename the workspace, optionally invite teammates, and save your API key (shown once).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the dashboard">
    You land on **Dashboard** with Invoices, Needs Attention, Upload, Products, Export, Billing, Team, inbound channels, Reminders, Integrations, and API Keys in the sidebar. Some settings are visible only to workspace owners.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  After onboarding, upload a sample PDF or image from **Upload**, then open the invoice when status becomes **Ready**. See [Upload and processing](/guides/upload-and-processing).
</Tip>

## Team invites

Owners can invite teammates from **Settings → Team** or during onboarding.

1. Invitee opens `{APP_PUBLIC_URL}/invite/{token}`.
2. They register onto the **same** workspace (no second welcome credit grant).
3. After OTP, invitees skip the owner onboarding wizard.

Typical roles:

| Role | What they can do |
| - | - |
| Owner | Full workspace settings, billing, API keys, invites |
| Reviewer | Upload, review, edit invoices |
| Viewer | Read-only access |

## Root vs tenant

Root accounts manage all tenants, credit packages, and platform AI settings. They do **not** use Billing or tenant Upload for day-to-day invoice work.

Customer workspaces never see Admin pages. If you open an admin URL as a tenant user, SnapIt redirects you home.

<Warning>
  Platform Root setup (env bootstrap, Docker `ADMIN_*`) is an operator concern. Product users should register or accept an invite — see the repo `docs/root-tenant-login.md` only if you self-host.
</Warning>
