# Messenger and Instagram capture

# Messenger and Instagram capture

SnapIt can receive invoice photos and PDFs sent to a connected Facebook Page through Messenger or to its linked Instagram professional account.

This feature is different from WhatsApp. A Messenger or Instagram chat must be linked to a workspace before later files can be routed there. The feature is disabled until an operator configures `META_MESSAGING_ENABLED` and the required Meta credentials.

## Link a chat

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Facebook or Instagram settings">
    A workspace owner opens **Settings → Facebook** in SnapIt.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create a link code">
    Choose **Link Messenger** or **Link Instagram** and copy the generated `SNAP-XXXX` code.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send the code">
    Send the code as a message to the connected Facebook Page or Instagram account.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send invoices">
    After the chat is verified, send JPG, PNG, or PDF invoices in that same conversation.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  Messenger and Instagram links are separate. A code sent in Messenger does not link an Instagram conversation, and vice versa.
</Warning>

## What happens to an invoice

SnapIt downloads the supported attachment, records the inbound message, and queues the normal invoice extraction workflow. The invoice appears in the linked workspace like an upload from the app.

Linked chats do not receive an immediate receipt acknowledgement. Processing happens asynchronously: the sender later receives either an extraction-success message with the reference, vendor, amount, and public URL, or a needs-review message with the reference.

## Unknown chats

An unlinked conversation can submit exactly **5 invoice files per channel and sender** for operator review. The sixth is ignored. Unknown invoices receive a public view link and remain unassigned until a platform operator assigns them. Assignment charges the target workspace's credits and does not reset the five-file cap.

Only native `image` and `file` attachments containing JPG, PNG, or PDF content are accepted. External image attachments are rejected. Multiple eligible attachments in one message can be queued as separate invoices.

Messenger and Instagram links are separate and verified independently. Adding, regenerating, or removing links requires the workspace owner. Pending links display as **Waiting**, verification codes expire after **30 minutes**, and Settings polls until they become **Verified**. Messenger can be configured while Instagram remains unavailable.

<Note>
  Workspace owners manage links from Settings. Meta app setup, webhook verification, signature validation, and platform-admin assignment are operator tasks and are not required for everyday users.
